Yakka Biography
Croatian award winning DJ and producer Yakka is one of the leading house music figures in Croatia. From his early start in late 2000s until today, he has been involved in electronic music scene as a DJ, producer, label manager, event promoter and even more. With his first official release in 2011 for Deeperfect (owned by Stefano Noferini) on compilation Deeperfect’s Got Talent 2, Yakka became involved in releasing tracks on some respectable labels like Pacha, King Street, Cassa Rossa but also on various smaller jackin/disco house labels, like Cruise Music – home of his singles, EPs and debut album “After Beach”.
Some of those early releases lounched Yakka on Traxsource and Beatport top charts numerous times which helped him to get collaboration opportunities with some worth-to-mention names like Barbara Tucker – house music diva, DJ PP – Uruguay based tech house DJ, Adrian Hour – Toolroom resident, South America’s leading techno name , Angelo Ferreri and Demuir – two jackin house producers which have been absolutely dominating jackin house charts for the past few years. However, there are many more collaborations with some less known producers from Balkan region and all around the world, which could be found in his full discography.
Speaking of names, Yakka has been warming up dancefloors and playing after sets for Claptone, Franky Rizardo, ARTBAT, Ferreck Dawn, Technasia, Tom Novy, Dennis Cruz, Low Steppa, Crazibiza, Flashmob, Manuel De La Mare, Weiss, Mike Vale, Angelo Ferreri, Paolo Barbato, Sharam Jey, Gramophonedzie, Juliet Sikora, Richy Ahmed, Chelina Manuhutu, Lilly Palmer and more.
The sound he has been building over the years could be described as old school warm-feel uplifting house, based on disco, funk and soul samples which is nothing strange when you know the fact that some of his main influences were/are Eric Kupper, Ian Pooley, Sandy Rivera, Freemasons, Hot22 and David Morales. But when you catch him behind the decks, the music you can expect to hear goes far away from one particular house genre and can varry from easy going deep house, minimal, over classy house to the harder tech house groove, even dark deep tech / progressive. It all depends of event and the crowd, but one thing is always the same – it’s a music that makes you move!
While the music he makes is worldwide oriented, collaborations with Croatian musicians are something he’s doing from time to time and it involves the artists he admires and follows. So few of them that got their singles in Yakka house versions are Detour, Ivana Kindl, Krankšvester, Nipplepeople, Mario Huljev, ManGroove, Anna Moor, Artemija and others.
Currently resident of BSH events and LMF Festival, Yakka performed all around Croatia (clubs and festivals) with some gigs outside the country (France, Serbia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina).
